Events

A possible great comet

In January 2023, the International Minor Planet Centre has announced the name of a new comet discovered in 2023, C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS). Its perihelion will be on 28 September 2024 (at 16º Virgo) with a predicted magnitude from -0.2 to 0.9. It could very well be the great comet of this year.

How, when and where to see C/2023 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS

Although this comet may reach a brightness that can be observed without a telescope from the end of August 2024, the best time to observe it for people living in the northern hemisphere is October. If you want to see the comet in late September, you will need to get up early. Before the 9th of October, the comet may be observable for a period of time before sunrise. The best viewing time will be about half an hour before sunrise, roughly to the south-east. You can use your mobile phone’s stargazing software to get more information on the exact time and place of the comet’s rise.

From 12 to 20 October will be the best time to see this comet. It will appear in the western sky after sunset in the evening, and the time it stays in the sky will increase day by day until the comet becomes faint at the end of October. During this time, if the comet really does become a great comet as predicted, then we will be able to observe it without the aid of software to confirm its location. On the evening of 17 October we will have a chance to see the comet appearing in the western sky and the super full moon rising from the eastern horizon.

Astrology Forecasting of C/2023

Comet’s Path on the Tropical Zodiac

Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS is predicted to become visible from 27th August, at this time it will be located around 14º Virgo and will stay at this degree until 30th August. Also, during this time the Comet moves backwards on the ecliptic (retrograde) and stays at 13º Virgo from 31 August to 15 September.

Virgo can imply things related to women, agriculture and providing services. Virgo is an earth sign, so it may also mean that disasters in the following year may be related to agriculture, material, money, (financial) earth, soil, mountains, sand and deserts. For example, earthquakes, landslides, mudslides, burials and famine.

The comet will conjunct (align) with the Sun on 5th September at 13º Virgo. Its impact will affect people and things related to the Sun. Shocking news may be expected for celebrities, leaders, and members of the royal family. It is important to note that the comet’s impact will not only be immediate but will also continue in the coming year. And we know that comets have long been associated with the deaths of kings, leaders, and important figures.

From 16 to 19 September the comet will stay at 12º Virgo and conjunct with Mercury on 17th September. This suggests it will affect people and things related to Mercury, such as transportation, travel, traffic, roads, bridges, business transactions, paperwork, communication and correspondence. There may also be important news related to students, young people, driving, journalists, business people and secretaries.

Also the comet will be opposite Saturn at 14º Virgo on 26 Sep before it reaches perihelion.

Saturn is associated with the elderly, bureaucracy, and large organisations. As Saturn is in Pisces, it may indicate connections to the ocean, water resources, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries.

Between 20 September and 5 October the comet will move from 13º Virgo to 29º Virgo. On the 2nd October 2024 we will have another Solar Eclipse, and the comet will be at  21º Virgo, square Jupiter at 21º Gemini. This will affect the people and things represented by Jupiter, including religion, aviation, publishing, higher education and religious people.

It will be opposite Neptune at 28º Virgo on 5 October. The Comet C/2023 opposite Neptune once again suggests that there may be surprising news related to the ocean, marine life, shipping, drinking water, water resources, chemical, and pharmaceutical industries.

From 6 to 12 October the comet will stay in Libra. Libra is associated with fairness, justice, partnership, and human interaction. Related matters may bring unexpected changes in the upcoming year.

Also the comet will conjunct (align) with the Sun again on 10th October and from this date it will appear in the evening sky. It will also align with Mercury on 11th October. As the comet aligns with the Sun and Mercury twice while it is visible, we should take its influence seriously.

On 11th October Comet C/2023 A3 will align with Mercury and Fixed Spica. According to Robson, it gives success, renown, riches, a sweet disposition, love of art and science, unscrupulousness, unfruitfulness and injustice to innocence. Spica is the star representing wheat and grains in the hands of the goddess so global agriculture could be significantly impacted. It may be that famine or bad harvests cause food prices to soar, or that new agricultural technologies affect or help food production.

From 12th October Comet C/2023 A3 will move into Scorpio.

Scorpio is associated with life and death crises, darkness, fear, burial, and transformation. These issues cannot be ignored due to their potential impact. The water element suggests that we need to pay attention to issues such as water resources, water pollution, floods, oceans, nourishment, and care.

Although it will not conjunct any planet during this time it will be opposite Uranus at 26º Taurus and may cause problems in finance, electronic finance, cryptocurrency, financial reform, agricultural technology, biotechnology and other fields. Especially during this period, there is also Venus opposite Uranus. And we know the Fixed Star Algol aligns at 26º Taurus. This fixed star often symbolises unfortunate events that can be quite shocking, but it can also, as in the myth of Medusa, imply that some people (especially women) have been treated harshly and unjustly.

Comet C/2023 A3 will stay in Sagittarius between 19-31 October. Sagittarius is linked to religion, philosophy, higher education, overseas travel, aviation, and publication. Due to the characteristics of the fire element, special attention should be paid to accidents such as fires, explosions, wars, and riots.

The comet and Venus conjunction in Sagittarius may indicate a connection between women’s rights, female issues, art and peace. A truce with religion, universities, morality, and the media, will surprise or frighten us.

On 21st October, Comet C/2023 A3 will align with Fixed Antares. According Robson it causes malevolence, destructiveness, liberality, broad-mindedness, evil presages and danger of fatality and makes its natives rash, ravenous, headstrong and destructive to themselves by their own obstinacy.

Between 1 and 3 November, Comet C/2023 A3 will stay in Capricorn and this could be the end of comet season as after this time it may not be visible to the naked eye.

At this moment we have Mars opposite Pluto in Capricorn and we should pay attention to large organisations such as countries, UN, banks, and it is very close to the US presidential election. We can expect some unpleasant shocking event happening during this time. The impact could be stronger if comet still can be seen by the naked eye on election day.

Comet’s Path in the night sky

Recent observations suggest that the comet could reach a magnitude of +6.0, which is bright enough to be visible without a telescope. According to NASA, this could occur on September 4th.

The comet reached its perihelion on 27th September at 15 Virgo on the Ecliptic. However, when we see it in the sky, it is located in the Sextans constellation until 28th September.

Sextans is an ancient astrometric instrument, used for navigation as well as for astronomy.

This suggests significant incidents during this time period related to astronomy, astrology, surveying, measurement, and navigation.

The comet will travel through the Leo constellation between 29th September and 4th October

(17 – 25º Virgo on the Ecliptic). Leo is associated with wild animals, royalty, country leaders, important people and creativity. It is a fire sign, related fires, wars, riots, and extreme hot weather.

Between 5th – 15th October Comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS will travel through the Virgo constellation. It also passes Virgo sign on the ecliptic, as we discussed earlier.

From 16th October to 19th October, this comet will travel through the Serpens caput constellation. Vivian Robson thinks this constellation gives immorality, accidents, violence and danger of poison, and I think it will have impact on reptiles and is also related to accidents caused by reptiles.

After that, the comet will travel through the Ophiuchius constellation between 20th Oct – 10th November. According Ebertin “Connected with these are Neptunian tendencies, to infectious contamination caused by toxins. People thus influenced are easy going in the use of medical drugs, hallucinatory drugs stimulating foodstuffs, too much good living and overindulgence in tobacco and alcohol. There is danger of insect bites, snakebites or assault from infuriated animals or rabid dogs.”

The Ophiuchius constellation may also suggest important medical issues, medical disputes, life and death crisis, environmental balance. After this point, the comet’s brightness decreases and it becomes invisible to the naked eye.

Disaster or Librating

There are two things that need special attention. First, I follow the tradition of astrologers to only use comets to make predictions when they are visible to the naked eye, since every day we have a lot of comets in the sky that are not visible with the naked eye. These may have an influence but it will be a challenge to consider them as it would be to consider the thousands of asteroids in the chart.

Secondly, although some astrologers say we don’t need comets to tell us that 2024 will be challenging, the bright comets in 2024 almost always appear with solar and lunar eclipses. Is this what people call a “double whammy”? It certainly deserves our attention.

Although we often think of comets as symbols of disaster, in my research they are often associated with surprising new discoveries or liberating events. Maybe, in addition to watching or worrying about the occurrence of disasters, we need to think about the possibility that comets can bring new hope in the midst of chaos.
